Day 13: No diving
The following is an overview of the general itinerary route and areas visited. Please note that this is an example only and the inclusion of some locations and the amount of time spent at each may be affected by sea conditions and other factors.
Day 2 | Day 1 - Embarkation
Embarkation is followed by introductions, boat and safety briefings and lunch.
After these, you can assemble your equipment, settle into your cabin and relax before dinner is served.
Day 3 | Day 2-3: Pantar Strait & Alor
Two days of diving around the Pantar Strait and northern shores of Alor. The nutrient-rich upwellings here fuel everything from resident macro critters to passing pelagics. Sites range from vertical walls and pinnacles to sloping coral gardens and hidden caverns. Water temperatures can drop to around 22°C (72°F) in the channel, and strong currents are to be expected at some sites.
Day 4 | Day 4: Wetar & Roeng
Wetar is the last major island of the Nusa Tenggara chain. Tanjung Nunukae is characterised by a shallow plateau that drops abruptly into a wall draped in gigantic sea fans, cup corals and impressive sponges, with moderate to strong currents that bring in mobula and manta rays. In the afternoon, the small limestone island of Roeng, off Wetar's northwest coast, offers impressive wall dives with reef sharks, barracuda and schooling trevallies.
Day 5 | Day 5: Gunung Api
Gunung Api is an active volcanic island best known for its extraordinary population of sea snakes. From the moment you drop in, you are likely to find yourself surrounded by them, moving through dramatic lava formations. Huge barrel sponges, sea whips, sea fans and an array of corals cover the reef, and hammerhead sharks are occasionally spotted here. Above the surface, frigatebirds nest in huge numbers and will come out to meet the boat long before you arrive.
Day 6 | Day 6: Nyata & Romang
Two volcanic islands sit at the gateway to the Moluccas, with terraced slopes dropping into the Banda Sea, large barrel sponges and vivid gorgonian sea fans. Tanjung Nyata adds an impressive sponge-encrusted wall with a resident school of snappers at the top. Napoleon wrasse, reef sharks, rays and tuna are all regulars here. Overnight passage towards Damar.
Day 7 | Day 7-8: Nus Leur & Terbang
The highlight cluster of the trip. Nus Leur is a small atoll with a steep sloping reef and a good chance of Napoleon wrasse, with a beautiful shallow coral garden for the safety stop. Terbang Utara sees deep water and powerful currents driving manta rays, dogtooth tuna and swirling schools of barracuda and trevally against dramatic walls, while Terbang Selatan offers equally impressive drop-offs with eagle rays, surgeonfish and bumphead parrotfish.
Day 8 | Day 9: Nil Desperandum
Nil Desperandum Atoll offers a mix of beautiful sloping reefs, deep walls and the real possibility of scalloped hammerhead sharks. Due to the lack of protected anchorage it remains relatively unexplored, with sponge and sea-fan-encrusted walls that reward patient divers. September to November offers the best conditions for hammerhead sightings. This is a bucket-list dive for those chasing the big stuff.
Day 9 | Day 10: Serua
Serua is a small volcanic island with a scenic hilltop church visible from the water. The main dive sites are around the nearby islets, with steep walls covered in hard and soft corals and impressive barrel sponges. Nutrient-rich waters attract dogtooth tuna, Napoleon wrasse, schools of jacks and fusiliers, great barracuda and turtles. Serua is also a well-established hammerhead hotspot, best dived early morning or late afternoon. Overnight transit towards Dai.
Day 10 | Days 11-12: Dai & Dawera
The seamount at Dai is one of the standout dive sites on the route, with a pristine, largely undived reef packed with fish life. Named sites along the north side include Tanjung Raja, known for stunning soft corals, and Sponge Delight, where a resident school of barracuda holds station.
At Dawera, the pristine reef is so full of fish you genuinely don't know where to look. On the current side, the reef is covered in pyramid butterflyfish mixing with hundreds of neon fusiliers and surgeonfish, with a resident school of thousands of big-eye trevallies sweeping back and forth. A visit to the village on the white sand beach is a genuine highlight. The community here is self-sufficient, deeply protective of their reef, and extraordinarily welcoming.
