About diving in Halmahera
Few boats come to Halmahera, in North Maluku. Most trips here are crossings between Raja Ampat and North Sulawesi, made as the boats change regions, and most fall between April and September. The diving faces the open ocean: seamounts, sloping reefs and deep drop-offs that pull in pelagic fish, in a part of Indonesia that sees very few divers. Trips usually run eight to eleven nights between Ternate, Sorong, Manado and Bitung, and some cross the Equator on the way.
